Reminder: Get Your Free, At-Home COVID Tests by Friday

Aug 31, 2022

Telemed - not just for pandemics anymore

If you haven’t ordered a third set of at-home COVID-19 tests from the federal government, you still have a few days to take action.

The deadline to order the free rapid antigen tests through the federal website is Friday. As we approach the deadline, here’s what you need to know:

    • Deadline: Friday, September 2.
    • How many per household: Families can order a third set of at-home COVID-19 tests per residential address.
    • Expiration: Ordering through the site will be suspended on Friday, as congressional funding for tests has been discontinued, administration officials said.
  • Additional availability: Beyond the federal website, Food and Drug Administration-authorized at-home tests are available through retailers and pharmacies. Employer and marketplace insurers are required to cover up to eight at-home tests per month. In addition, there are free testing sites available throughout the U.S.
  • How to order: If you haven’t ordered your full allotment of at-home tests from the site, you can order online or call (800) 232-0233 (TTY: 888-720-7489).

Although COVID-19 case counts are below the peak from last winter, it’s important to stay up to date on your COVID-19 vaccinations and follow the latest public health guidelines. You should take an at-home test if:

  • You experience fever, sore throat, runny nose, or loss of taste or smell
  • You are at least five days after close contact with someone with COVID-19
  • You’re planning to see a group of people, especially those at risk of severe disease or who may not be up to date on their vaccines

Additional information about COVID-19 at-home testing is available online.
