Thankful for Health Care Access in PA

Nov 7, 2017

As the holiday season grows closer, especially Thanksgiving—a holiday set aside for making us all more appreciative for what we have—many Pennsylvanians soon will come together with their families to share what they’re thankful for over a delicious meal (we hope it’s healthy, too!).

One of many things we can be thankful for in Pennsylvania is the work our state does to implement programs that improve access to health care for all residents.

According to a WalletHub study, Pennsylvania ranks No. 8 for access to health care. The study examined health care services to determine which states have the lowest costs, offer the greatest access to care, and have the best patient outcomes. Pennsylvania rates among the top 20 states, receiving a No. 18 overall ranking.

Pennsylvania earned its ranking thanks in part to its outstanding available programs, including:

  • Department of Health and Human Services
  • Preventative care services
  • Dental services
  • Services supporting pregnant women and their children
  • Pennsylvania’s Medical Assistance Transportation Program

Has anyone helped you get healthier this year? Having good health is foundational to your quality of life. Don’t forget to express thanks to them—it might be a physician or nurse; a friend or family member who exercises with you or encourages you; a health coach or class leader; or even a support group. Make sure they know you are thankful for their expertise and support!
