Thyroid Awareness

Apr 4, 2017

Amanda Heagy knew something felt off.

“I couldn’t keep weight on. I was starving. I was exhausted. I just chalked it up to having a baby,” said Heagy, of New Holland, PA. But after tests revealed nodules on her thyroid, Amanda was left with two options: get radioactive therapy or remove the thyroid. She opted for surgery in January 2016. And although recovery and medication adjustments have been a year in the making, Amanda now has the energy to keep up with her son and daughter—and even grow her fashion consulting business. “I even started working out again,” she added. “This is going to be the year that changes everything.”

More than 12% of the U.S. population will develop a thyroid condition in their lifetime—but a startling 60% are unaware of their condition. Share Amanda’s story to spread the word about #ThyroidAwareness.
