Taking the kids trick-or-treating this October?
Say “boo” to safety hazards by following these 5 Halloween trick-or-treat rules.

1. Steer Clear of Danger: Stay away from unlit and unfamiliar areas. Discuss a route with kids and stick to it!
2. Dress Smart: Costumes should not impair your sight or cause you to trip. Reflective material on shoes, costumes and candy bags helps keep kids more visible. Opt for flame-resistant materials if you know kids will be around candles. And be sure to wear layers to be prepared for colder temperatures!
3. Street Smarts: Look both ways before crossing the street.
4. Drive Safely: Drivers, be sure to yield to trick-or-treaters! A popular time range for the event is 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. But keep an eye out for teens during mischief night, too!
5. Flock Together: Kids under age 12 should always travel in groups with adult supervision. And if they’re over 12, they should still bring a group of buddies.
