Get in the #GivingTuesday spirit and donate to a local food bank. Here’s what to put in (and leave out) of your grocery cart.

 

Did you know more than 1.76 million Pennsylvanians—one in seven—are at risk of going hungry?

 

Before you toss those leftover canned or boxed goods, consider donating to a local food bank. One could be just up your street! Find you local food bank at FeedingAmerica.org.

Guidelines:

 

  • Avoid perishable, processed, high-sodium, and sugary foods
  • Add Vitamin C with 100% real fruit juice boxes, cups, and sauce
  • Boost protein with unsalted nuts, canned fish, chicken, and beans
  • Choose whole grains such as dry pasta, cereal, and oats
  • Get rich in fiber with boxed brown rice, canned veggies, and granola

 

Most-Needed Items:

 

  • Peanut butter (to go size)
  • Shelf stable 100% fruit juice
  • Canned chicken and tuna
  • Single serve macaroni and cheese
  • Shelf stable milk  (8 oz)
  • Almonds
  • Individual Fruit Cups (4 oz peaches, pears, mixed fruit)
